Two-part question: Is being on Asian Man Records the true label experience? If so, do you think the exposure of the CC license helped you get a more traditional label deal?
QUR was huge!
Chris has know Mike Park (Asian Man) and Jeff Rosenstock (Quote Unquote Records) for years and years

What about Phat & Phunky?
More like a collective than a label.

Where did the project name originate?
term “chotto” Japanese
“ghetto” is, um ghetto

Hiro (presumably Japanese)

guitarist likes to shred!

formal music training?
Jodi went to Berklee College of Music
Fletcher started out on drums but then moved to bass

Chris on the show listened to ska!

Where do you see the band in 5 years?
money and girls!

if Van Halen went to junior high...something?

The real reason...to put out good music!

How much prep do you do pre-studio?
scratch vocal days! Things magically become lyrics!

originally Chris Candy wrote all the songs but now everyone does a lot

Dillinger Four or Bad Brains!

a technical band

Santana or Journey is the way to go. Lots of chimes!

How long have you been around?
7 years. started in college...except for Jodi

What are your other artistic endeavors or projects, if any?
Everybody has something.
Chris is a “typical LA piece of shit”
Fletcher is a good sound guy and does commercials,
Jodi teaches drums and gigs! (Chotto Ghetto is the main band though!)
Jodi has played on Carson Daily, Jimmy Kimmel, etc. and opened for Hootie and the Blowfish...
other Chris is studying to be a doctor (their own Milo!)

What is your touring schedule like?
not a lot of touring these days. Did it in the past. These days, play in California mostly (which is big in its own right!)

Something coming out soon! It’s a surprise!

Is unconventional style helped by having stuff on the Internet?
Indeed!
Black Flag (and others) started going out on the road. It can be a grab bag.
Fletcher sometimes fucks up on base!

Fletcher: hip-hop, Pennywise
mostly punk except other Chris (at least when younger)

everybody likes what they are doing in the band
